Why do I need an Official NMJL Card?

If you play American Mahjong, the Official National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) Card is a must. It’s updated each year in April. The cards contain the approved hands for that year and official game rules.

Accuracy Matters: Only the official card guarantees you’re playing by the current NMJL rules. Counterfeits often contain mistakes or outdated information. There’s nothing worse than getting a “Fauxjong” because you were using an unofficial or different card than your opponents!

Support the Game: Proceeds from official cards help fund education, community programs, and charities through the League. They support over 25 charities like the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Make A Wish Foundation, Meals on Wheels, Ronald McDonald House, Susan G. Komen Foundation, and more!

Quality & Tradition: The real card is durable, well-designed, and part of a long-standing tradition. Players keep their cards from years past. It’s incredibly special to open up an heirloom Mahjong Set and find a collection of previous year’s cards! You and your opponents can even keep the game fresh by playing with a past card!

Watch Out for Knockoffs: Sites like Amazon often sell unofficial versions. Buy directly from the NMJL or trusted sources that sell the official card. You can find budget-friendly game sets and accessories, but don’t skimp on your playing card. Invest in the real thing. It’s the best way to play with others and the right way to support the game for generations to come!
